But in Thailand’s villages, democracy begins with a meeting under a tree, at the temple, or in the community hall—anywhere villagers can gather to talk about their future. At the heart of this process lies something extraordinary: over one million committee members, elected by villagers themselves, working voluntarily to manage the development of their own communities.

In the heart of Southeast Asia, Thailand’s countryside holds a quiet change—one not led by political elites or billionaires, but by farmers, homemakers, shopkeepers, and local leaders. This movement is called the Village Fund—a grassroots initiative empowering over 79,000 villages to take charge of their own development.
